Too Sad To Laugh

In Death on July 25, 2019 at 7:18 pm

When my husband, Frank, died, suddenly and unexpectedly in the hospital on May 15, he took my joy with him.

To distract myself, people told me to write a post for my blog. But, my blog is supposed to make readers laugh. What’s to laugh about anymore?

Of course I’ve laughed in the past two months. But nothing is as funny as it once was. Or as enjoyable. Or as hopeful.

I have nothing funny to say.

When I do, I’ll be back.

  1. I am so sorry, Patsy. I am here whether you feel funny or not. I haven’t posted since April, but for other reasons I will also talk about later. Whenever you are ready we will still be here. Hugs to you.

    • Thank you, Jon. I’m sorry you’re going through something, too. Hugs right back.

    • Hi Jon, how are you doing? You said you are going through something. Are you okay? Do you also go by Jono?

      • Hi Patsy. Jono is a nickname and blog name. Yes, I changed my life by leaving the farm and my wife of 30 some years and moved to a little cabin in the nearby small town. There are a lot of reasons which I needn’t go into here, but it is something I had been considering for many years and should have done sooner. Anyway, I am well and living with three cats who refuse to help with the rent. You know how cats are. I am happy and in control of my own life again which is a good reason to keep smiling. I hope you are doing well and while you will always miss Frank you will get better at dealing with it. I will always miss a few folks as well. I miss them every day, but I am getting used to it and it interferes less and less with my daily life. They are always in my mind when I need to talk to them, though. As long as we are alive, they are alive. Take good care of yourself

        • Hi Jon, Wow, your life sure has changed. I’m glad you are happy. Thank you for your comforting words about Frank. I wish I had some advice about how to make your cats more helpful/useful, but I don’t. I only have experience with dogs, and I haven’t learned how to make them useful, either. Take care of yourself, too!

  2. It’s okay. You need to mourn and take time to work through your loss. It will not be overnight but each day will get better. It won’t be easy. Try to think of a happy/funny thought of Frank each day and smile/laugh. Sending lots of hugs.

  3. Oh no! I’m so sorry this happened to you. It must feel overwhelming. Hang in there and don’t feel pressure to amuse anybody until you really feel lighthearted again. You will.

  4. Patsy, I’m sorry to learn about your loss. Your last post about Frank was so amusing. You and he had been on my mind.
Hang in there. It doesn’t end but it does become easier to bear.

    • Thank you so much, Chuck, for reaching out to me. I’m so touched by your concern. I know it’ll get easier. Thanks for saying you found my earlier post amusing. That makes me happy!

  5. Don’t worry, Patsy. You will laugh and be happy again, but it takes time. You know Frank is happy, and this separation is temporary. When you feel like writing a humor blog, you will, but don’t push it. Something will strike you funny – I have laughed out loud at God sometimes (is that a sign of insanity?) – and you will feel like sharing that with your readers.

    • Thanks for commenting, Connie. You know what this is like, so it’s nice to hear that you’re laughing now, even if it’s at something God did!

  6. We will gladly wait; you’re worth it!! Lots of love to you and Luke!
