The name of my blog, “Patsy Porco’s Blog: Free and Worth It!” came about through creativity and theft. One of my favorite authors, Lawrence Block, had a newsletter that he used to mail out to subscribers. The newsletter’s tagline was, “Free and worth every penny!” I suspect that he repurposed that phrase from the title of a book he read about pulp writers, which I think was called, A Penny A Word and Worth It! I took 1 – 3 words from Block’s phrase and 1 – 3 words from the book’s title, and came up with my blog title. It was only a matter of time before someone did.

I was born in Philadelphia. At age 16, my family moved to Southeastern Ohio. I graduated from The Ohio State University in 1984 and moved to New York City in 1987. I married my husband Frank and we lived in Norwalk, CT, for 27 years. We had one son, Luke, in 1993. Frank died in May 2019. In July 2022, I moved for two years to Powell, Ohio, to help my mother. And, as of September 2024, I returned to Connecticut. This time around, I live in the Cove section of Stamford, not even a mile from the beach.

I read all kinds of fiction, have been chewing nicotine gum for more than two decades, and nap daily, sometimes more.
